It's as good idea as any. One point of advice be sure that the cage you purchase is easy to clean. I thought I was getting a great deal on one of the cages I purchased, well it turned out the cage was impossible to clean. The shelves were hard to remove, the cage was too deep(I practically have to climb in). It takes me 10 min. to clean on cage and twice as long to do the other.
Also be sure to buy the dish that secures to the cage. Ferrets love to push dishes off.

Get them at the same time. It's not like you're setting up a fish aquarium or anything. Buy the cage, and then 10 minutes later, buy the ferrets. Who cares if it's 1 minute or 1 week?

Sure. You can buy them anytime before you get the pets. Could be the same day even. Just so long as you have the environment/food set up for them.
When I got my ferret, I got everything at the same time I got him! He just ran around the hour while I set everything up. Not really a big deal.

First, make sure that your area doesnt prohibit ferrets, even though your local pet store carries them, doesnt mean that they are allowed in your town or area.
IF they are allowed, then get all the equipment, make sure everything has been clean thuroghly. Then set everything up where you want it, after everything is set up, you can go then to get your ferrets or you can wait for the next day, but why would you wana wait 2-3 weeks for????

You can do it all in the same day if you want, but I would totally put the cage together before you bring the ferrets home. Our last cage took us 3 hours to put together and the jumping ferret attacks didn't help with that process...
