We give them billions of dollars. In return they have attacked one of our Navy ships (U.S.S. Liberty) killing more sailors than the Cole bombing did. We have caught one of their spies stealing top secret defense intelligence, who knows how many other spies they have here. We give and give and they take and take. They have a pro-Israel political action comittee here. (I wonder if there is a pro american P.A.C. over there) What have they actively done besides lip service to be our allies? NOT A DAMN THING.

America is a Judeo-Christian capitalistic democracy. When our country was first formed, you had to be Unitarian to vote! Make no mistake, the roots of that discrimination will be being pulled up for years to come! They have been strengthenned domestically by the likes of laws like The Privacy Act of 1974 which prevents taking quotas of religious affiliation from employees while hiding what the minorities are so that Christians remain in power, like they always have.
A non Christian can enter but not be moved up to high too fast. Exceptions are nepotism, size and general inability to hold down any traditional relationship but with a social plate the size of the Sun.

It's more of a 'give and take' relationship with the Israeli gov't.
We giveth, they taketh. That's it. No questions asked.

What's worth noting is that it's not only the AIPAC lobby that is responsible for the US government's unequivocal support of Israel, but fundamentalist Christians play a role as well. They have vested interests in fulfulling Biblical prophecy. (Why wait for the 2nd Coming when you can make it happen?)

I think it should be the other way around. America should feel esteemed that Israel would even consider it an ally.

I don't know of any American citizen who shed his blood to help establish that Jewish State 1948.
It was Jewish blood. Same as it is today, more Jewish blood to help hold back the tryanny of Religeous fanatics from world domination.
Far as I'm concerned, Israel does not need America. They began without us, I'm sure they will end without us.

by the way, nice pic on your blog.

You could list off la the spying incidences, the USS Liberty, but why does nobody talk about Zakheim's missing Pentagon Trillions?

it's probably the most abusive (voluntary) international relationship in world history.

Israel has not really done anything to earn this; and they have not done anything to suggest we ignore them either. America was instrumental in the creation of Israel though the United Nations. The US would be looked upon pretty poorly to create a nation and then turn its back on it - (could say that about Iraq too now).

America and Israel have a strong and special relationship. America has always been a staunch supporter of Israel. This support stems from the global reaction to the Holocaust and because Israel was the one of the only countries in the Middle East during the Cold War that did not have socialist leanings. Since Bush entered office the support for Israel has remained and perhaps is stronger, in part, because he is an Evangelical Christian and the support for Jewish presence in Israel is essential to a series of events they believe in, called "The Rapture".

America has come under criticism for its steadfast support, and at times I myself do not agree with our unconditional support.

Israel is a strategic position of importance in the control of middle eastern oil for the US. If they were to give up their allegiance to Israel it would be like letting the opposition take out your queen in chess. Not a smart move if you don't know anything about chess.
