If I want to work as a study abroad advisor/director what kind of Masters do I need?

2007-08-12 12:16:27 · 7 answers · asked by Paps 1 in Education & Reference Higher Education (University +)

So I need a Masters for sure? In any closely related area, ie: international relations?
I have an awesome resume, worked for two Gov. And lived in 4 countries, and know three languages. I would like to think that I am some what qualified, even without a Masters. I appreciate your input.

MEd in higher education administration or student personnel services would be ideal.

An MA in one of the languages or area studies might work.

Remember, colleges like to hire people with master's and higher.

Take a look at the Chronicle of Higher Education at the job openings and see what the open jobs are requiring.
http://chronicle.com/

One I just looked at says this:
"Bachelors Degree and two years of work experience in the field of international education required; Master's degree preferred. Academic degree related to international education; foreign language proficiency preferred. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate work with others as part of a management team; experience studying or working abroad; and experience in program administration. Experience applying for and writing grants preferred; strong computer skills and knowledge of assessment methods."

Good luck!

At CSB/SJU, the director's seem to have degrees in German, History, Philosophy, and Nursing.
http://www.csbsju.edu/internationaleducation/home/Faculty.htm

The application qualifications for the directors are:
1.Are fluent in the language of the host country.
2.Are most familiar with the culture of the host country.
3.Have a reputation for excellence in teaching.
4.Have a teaching or research interest that matches the host country or program learning goals.
5.Have received good student reviews and favorable Center for International Education (CIE) evaluations and have otherwise fulfilled their institutional responsibilities for programs they have directed.

So it seems if you had a degree in a specific language and also had some teaching experience, or if you had a teaching degree with a lot of language/cultural experience, that you should be qualified.

with a bit of luck. i think he's a genuine expertise and merits better than what WWE has been giving him. Ever because of the fact Survivor sequence 2005 WWE has neglected an impressive expertise. The expertise being Masters. He went from substantial eventing surivor sequence, fits with HBK, and his impressive Masterlock, to jobbing and not in any respect prevailing. i wish WWE provides you him the U.S. identify, yet at present the mid branch on uncooked is purely damaging. There needs to be extra overvalued fits and contenders for the U. S. identify. As for Smackdown and the IC identify that's doing large. i might fairly prefer to make sure Masters carry the IC identify over the U. S.. BQ: probable. i think WWE differences lots of their consequences final minute or an afternoon or 2 earlier. occasion: Christian. all human beings grew to become into saying how Christian might return and help out area. yet he under no circumstances did. i grew to become into interior the sector that evening at Royal Rumble and while the ref have been given knocked down all of them chanted Christian. yet rather Christian purely got here out and interupted Swagger 2 weeks later on ECW. WWE can not probable have made that his comeback initially. And in the event that they did substitute the Masters or Christian issues then i'm applaud WWE. They replaced the tip result to make the experience extra unpredictable. So no one knew what might ensue. And surprises are a large area in wrestling.
