I am thinking about getting a DSL internet connection from Verison for $14.99 a month. it has 768 kbps download speed and 128 kbps upload speed according to the website. Is this fast enough for me to play online games and to share an internet connection with the other 3 computers in my house?

Only one computer is used for gaming. The others are just for basic use like email and web surfing. My brother also wants to hook up his Xbox 360 to it for xbox live.

Yes it is fast enough, that is what I have and I download everything practicly, from playing games on real arcade to over one hundred thousand music files on limewire. But I have 226 GB so I don't know what you have but mine is fast enough, I only have mine on one line, one computer. I put some help sites for you, hope this helps you in your findings!

That speed would probably be ok for playing one game at a time but if you think you'll be playing a PC game online at the same time as your brother is using Xbox Live then you'll probably need a faster connection. This will depend on the games though and how much network traffic they generate.

Those prices also seem very expensive for such a slow connection. I have to admit I'm from UK so I don't know what prices are like in the US but it would be a total rip off here.

This is the slowest DSL speed available - it might be a little slow for online gaming - and sharing the connection with 3 other computers. It would be worth it to get the high speed.

It is always interesting to answer this type of question.

Immature kids want unrealistic speeds and tell you you cannot deal with anything under 768 Kbps up and 4,000 Kbps (4 Mbps) down until they have to pay the bill.

To answer your question - the speed quoted is a little light on upload speed for intense applications. I suspect you cannot get a faster DSL due to distance or it would be offered by Verizon. Running 3 game pcs simultaneously are likely to be hampered.

Finally a home grade router that sells for under $100 may be more of a problem - as they cannot handle heavy loads.

That should be fine for gaming but what you could do is call your isp and I bet for a couple more dollars they can get you up to at least a 1.5 or 3meg connection that would be a great speed for what you are doing but the speed you have now should be ok.

Depends on the game. Some games it's fine, other more elaborate games require a cable speed to play well. Experiment. The Xbox should be fine because there is a built-in delay on most games for them to synch up.

You would be much better off to have Cable Internet in the range of 4-6MB/s
Especially when you are considering multiple computers connected and more than one system gaming.

768Kb/s DSL is great if you have just one system or just check email and casual web browsing on the systems. It won't offer the speed you need for gaming.

dear friend
speed you mensioned is fine for gaming but in the gaming field when the speed is better you graphics will work smothly and then if you can make your connection 1Mbps or 2Mbps it will be better
but again this speed if fine
about the sharing with other computers this will slow down your speed and maybe the games will not work properly

No, not with your setup. You need to get the top of the line offering which is the Elite I believe. You are looking at Basic at that price.
