ADINA, thats exactly my thought. the governments give the UN its power. I believe something will transpire in writing for the UN to get legal authority to do this.

SFAA,
Your logic proves true in many ways. But im positive that the UN will be a force to be reckoned
with. Things will have to change soon and without the UN and supporting governments many will collapse in the next 10 years.

The U.N is the 8th king described in the book of revelation. This king will destroy the harlot which is the empire of false religion(all of them) and it will be sudden and unforeseen. That means there not going to be announcements or events leading the the destruction of false religion. Many bible prophecies have come true and this shall come true too in its due time. How?God will himself put it into their hearts to do it. Remember all thins are possible with Jehovah God.

I can believe that, I guess, but I don't see it causing the UN to attempt to remove world religion. I mean, they'd have a hard row to hoe, wouldn't they?

I see the UN as a peacekeeping outfit that should be given the authority to keep all countries secure on a global, regional, and national level. Theoretically, if the UN was actually able to use the power it was originally intended to have, then these peacekeeping units should function fairly optimally, since they are made up of member nations.

In an ideal world, the U.S. should pay its membership dues, which I believe it is behind in paying, and fully participate in the programs like The World Court. This is the court that tried the Nazis, and should actually be the one trying terrorists and anyone who violates the world's laws, for example, human rights violations. The problem is that the U.S. would probably find itself on the receiving end of that deal, so we arrogantly refuse to participate. I hope our next president corrects these problems.

However, I feel that while religion is a major problem for the U.N. peacekeeping and human rights forces, I think rather than abolish any and all religion in the world, which the U.N. has neither the authority to do, nor the means to enforce such a decree, I believe that the U.N., made up of member nations, must be able to transcend the world's religions and look for the common denominator among them.

For example, The Golden Rule is fairly universal, even in religions with no dieties. Perhaps focusing on fair and equal treatment of all human beings will be the way to go, who knows. I think key is that countries agree that they will not allow religion to prevent communication or just action.

Maybe if all nations were automatically included in the United Nations, instead of only certain ones, that would make a difference. What we need in the U.N., I think, is a sort of "council of elders" with a 10-12 member main council that perhaps rotates its membership so that all countries get to sit on that council at least once every ten years or so, however it works out. But for the U.N. to work properly, it has to have more clout, and I see the U.S. as the major impediment to that, even more so than religion.

Yes, the political leaders are very disturbed about a nuclear Holocaust. In there many attempts to stop the violence they are mentioning that religion plays a big part in the fact that they are unsuccessful.
Most religious leaders will not put an end to the violence and in fact foment more violence and refuse to stop.
The only way that was mentioned to stop the violence before it escalates into an earth wide destruction is to stop religion or at least the religious clerics.
As more small countries are getting nuclear capabilities it is a real possibility that an earth wide destruction is possible.
Another reason is that Russia didn't want to die. So WMD worked as a deterrent. But Muslims extremists want to die, as long as they take others with them and would be ok with a earth wide destruction. So it gets ever more real that the UN is going to have to act to stop it before it happens.
Only one way to do that is by removing religion.

Their main obstacle is not religion. Never has been. Not even close.

Primary obstacles to the UN being a force for peace and security:

1) They support non-peaceful governments. Sorry, but how the hell do you appoint China to sit on the Human Rights board.

2) They have been infested with corruption at every level. How many scandals in the last 10 years? And those are just the ones we know about.

3) They have no backbone. Yeah, send in a bunch of peacekeepers but tell them they can't shoot.

4) They make really dumb discisions. You're going to appoint Zimbabwe to be the lead on your long term African economic prosperity board. Great choice. The Zimbabwe that's sitting at 1700 percent inflation.

I have to agree with you. It is coming and anyone who can't see that doesn't read the news. The UN is gaining strength all the time and one more terriorist attack on the US and it will be a blood bath for Religion. I don't think they will stop with the US or even the middle east. We have a lot of carnage going on in Africa that needs someone to do something about. When it happens it will have to be earth wide to do any good.
The muslims are waiting for clerics to give them the word to destroy the infidels. That ought to go over big.

I believe that religon as it is today needs to be stopped.
As to the man's answer about China, they are Buddhist.
One fat guy on every corner, you need to travel the world more. they are very religious.
They have these monastaries where guys live all their life denieing themselves any fleshly pleasures like sex or even fruit. They are very radical.
They have like shrines where they put food and flowers and stuff.
I believe that religious leaders use religion to gain worship for themselves. I mean God only talks to me?
Send me money and God will make you rich? I mean he likes me? [TV Evangelists.]
The muslim clerics use it to gain worship popularity and money and wives. muslims site Mohammad to be able to molest little girls calling it marriage.

Religion is a control of the people thing.
Like the Catholic priest, who molests kids. They just move them around. Why? because the priests make more money for the church then the kids do?
It is all a big scam. But that is not the reason it has to die.
It is because it is a threat to world peace. If they don't stop it we are going to be nuke out of existance.

Yes, in fulfillment of prophesy, the governments (wild beast & UN or image of the wild beast) will turn on religion (the Harlot and Babylon the Great) and destroy her.

""Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth....And the ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devasted and naked, and will eat up her fleshly parts and will completely burn her will fire. For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thoughts..." Rev. 17: 5, 16 & 17

"Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues. For her sins have massed together clear up to the heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind."
Rev. 18: 4

Historically religion is the cause of more wars, more death, more destruction of historical documents and other people's history than any other cause. It would make me feel a lot better if governments got rid of the religious zealots who are supposedly in charge of these religions than remove any religion. In my opinion. Of course, getting rid of oppressive governments wouldn't hurt either.

The UN has trouble just showing up in areas of conflict and then they need help in trying to defend themselves. In trying to be neutral, doing nothing is their normal policy. I can not believe they will change anything.
