Go all out on the graphics card. With your budget, you can get a Geforce 8600 GTS. It should be good for your games, for HD video and "future proof".

definite that card will run battlefield 2142. my fx5200 runs battlefield 2142 on lowest settings. yet for 5-10 money extra you may desire to get the 8500gt for 60 from zipzoomfly. 8500gt is a dx10 card so youll be waiting to run video games that make the main of dx10 interior the destiny and its swifter than the x1550 tho not by utilising lots

Sorry, but your pops is wrong.

When gaming is the goal, the graphics card is the most important aspect of the PC.

The current bang for the buck champs are the
x1950pro @ $115-120:

and the
x1950xt @ $160-170:

Look at the blue lines:

As you can see, the x1950pro kills the 7950gt someone mentioned, and the x1950xt is almost a top-10 card at a GREAT price.

Just remember, most powerful cards (79xx and x19xx series cards) eat power and require a POWERFUL power supply, something along the lines of 500watt+ and 32amps+ on the +12volt rails. Expect to spend $80+ on a decent power supply.

What's your current CPU? The AMD 3600+ dual-core can be had for $62 and will easily overclock to 2.4ghz.

This 2gb memory kit will work great for $65:

I would go 8600 or better:

Just understand that current DirectX 10 cards may not work on with DirectX 10.1 (stupid Microsoft)

you can get an XFS 8600 for $137.00 CND at www.canadacomputers.com

it should be fine for that game, as for CPU go with a Core 2 duo, or quad. ASUS has some great boards.
