When you think of Cowboys (not sports team), actual western rustic lifestyle, what geographic state first comes to mind? What's second state comes to mind?

I'm from the UK and always associate cowboys with Texas. If I had to choose a city it would be Dallas. This has nothing to do with American football but the Tv Programme Dallas of the 70's. JR always wore what I would call a cowboy hat and on the opening credits they showed the word "Cowboys" in the end zone of the Dallas Cowboys stadium. Funny how things stick with you for 30 odd years!!! And nope, never lived there, haven't even visited the states yet! Hopefully 1 day!!!

I know this says top 2, but there are three that I think are tied for first. Montana, Texas, and Wyoming. I Know some folks down in Texas, I was raised ranching in Montana, and I've gone to a few friends' brandings down in Wyoming.

Most the 'western' states, California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico. I live in California and I've seen a few cowboys and girls around.

Texas and Montana and no to either, although I've visited both. Many trips to Texas from Galveston, to Dallas and in between. Lots and lots of cows, and little towns. Rodeos are a big thing.

Texas, but for some people "cowboy" has another meaning besides cattle wrangling.
