Any suggestions of how a dog lover such as myself could go about making human friends?

Oh honey you are so wrong - your dogs hate you more than we do. We don't have to look at your ugly face every day.

Note to other posters: Read this idiot's questions and answers - then report him. He has mental problems.

Hang out with the other dog lovers in the dog park? Volunteer at the local shelter?

Figure out why people don't like you and change?

First suggestion would be to find a nice dog park. Your dogs will be able to socialize, and if your open ... you start petting other peoples dogs and you can ease into conversation talking about dogs. Ups and downs, their favorite kinds, etc. Both you and the dogs would be happier.

Dogs are an excellent judge of character. Maybe you need to have higher standards. The people you've dealt with are obviously weird.

I'll be your friend. I really appreciate animal lovers.

Walk the park with your dog on a sunny Sunday. Make an effort and say "Hello" to at least five people.

Join the dog shelter... that'll let your love of dogs come into conversation and make you seem like a nice person humans and dogs alike will like you for...
