This senseless crime hits taxpayers in the pocket. Aren't parents responsible for a minor's crime in California? In the Antelope Valley, where I live, vandalism is too common. What can we do to stop it?

Financially responsible? Yes, I think so. Their little brats caused the damage, they put their little brats on this earth, and their little brats aren't old enough or capable of being held financially responsible. As far as being held morally or criminally responsible, that is a different story.

Some states, as we have heard often over the past decade or so, are trying to hold parents responsible for the crimes of their youths. Even though in many cases, in my opinion, the parents probably are in some ways responsible just due to neglect or apathy, I don't think that parents should be held criminally responsible for their dumbass kids. Those kids have enough influence from other sources such as teachers, the media, etc., to know right from wrong. Even if their parents don't "pay enough attention to them", or give them time-outs when they should be whuppin' their ***, it is the kids who committed the crime, not the parents.

Make the parents pay financially. Maybe that will give them some incentive to train their little heathens better. Putting them in jail instead of the little bastards is not the answer. Is society going to be better when Mom/Dad gets out of jail after a year and the little ****** has had not even been reprimanded? That's not going to help anything.

JMHO!

You can teach your kids right from wrong til you are blue in the face and what they decide to do with what you've given them is pretty much out of your control, unless you can be there standing over your child 24/7.

My wife and I rasied 5 children and one is now paying for his mistakes. The other 4 are doing great and are law abiding and productive citizens. All 5 were raised under one roof with the same rules. Go figure.

I so wish we could hold parents accountable for their child's actions. I've heard so many times, "I didn't know what my child was doing." Well, the parent SHOULD know what their child is doing. Especially in todays times with cell phones!

I agree with you. It is so unfair for taxpayers to pay for the destruction of property by unruly children. And many of these children grow up to be in the prison system, where, once again, the taxpayer is supporting them for their destructive choices.

its a tough call to hold someone responsible who was not there. I don't know the answere but this kinda strikes me as wrong. We teach our children to do right and then hope they do.
