There was a 3.9 magnitude earthquake at the time of the collapse. Two separate groups of geologists have said it is not consistent with earthquakes but is consistent with a mine collapse. It is in the best interest for the mine owner to have a separate earthquake as the cause of the mine collapse. In a situation like this, both groups have decided to determine the fate of the miners before pursuing the cause of the collapse. We will just have to wait before the jury is out on that one.
