I'm with a boyscout troop and I need to find a short overnight backing trip to take the new scouts on. IT needs to not be very far away (60 miles at most) from Albuquerque. It needs to be a fairly short hike 6 or 7 miles round trip.

Hello blksabbth:

Try contacting your Council service center. They should have a list of good trips for your troop to take. In the Denver Area Council they call it the GOAT book.

Another thing you could try is the Sierra club. They are a hiking club that promotes hiking and have lists compiled of all the places to go. They have the hikes ranked by difficulty and length. http://riogrande.sierraclub.org/santafe/ this group is in Santa Fe, but you can still contact them and ask for info.

You might also try this club http://www.swcp.com/~nmmc/. I am not familiar with them, so use your better judgment.

Keep on Scoutin'

Go to www.localhikes.com and type in Albuquerque in the search box. There should be a list of the closest hikes in their database and the distance from the city.
