Unfortunately anti-convulsants can have the same effect on the pill and other hormonal birth controls as antibiotics - they prevent the hormones from being metabolised properly, and mean that not enough of the hormones are absorbed to prevent ovulation and pregnancy. You will need to talk to your doctor about non-hormonal methods of contraceptive, such as an IUD, condoms are perfectly good too.

It is best to talk to your doctor because you have several health issues. But... I really liked Nuva-ring. It is a ring that is the size of a rubber band, but it is slightly harder. You fold it in half, and insert it into your vagina. It doesn't hurt, trust me. You leave it in for 28 days, remove it and a couple days later your period will start. After 5 days, you put another one back in, your period will either be over already or stop after you insert the new ring. Simple, and easy. You remove it by inserting your finger, and hooking your finger on it and removing it. Not hard to do at all. I highly reccomend it because I could not take regular pills because of the high amounts of hormones. The Nuva Ring has low amounts of hormones. good luck, and I hope this helped.

Birth control pills are the safest. The new lower dose pills have fewer side effects than the older ones. Check with your doctor on your next prenatal visit. He/she should be able to guide you.
