Aww yeah, I was just like you, but it got worse for me because EVERYONE knew who I was... see I was the only kid that knew anything about being on camera (I took a different class about radio/TV broadcasting at another school) so my English teacher decided to make me head anchor for the school news.. nice huh? the goth girl reading the news... So I got made fun of for that, I didn't speak much in class because the teacher would be the only one to understand what I was saying, once in a while I would make a joke about something, and the teacher would be laughing so hard they'd be crying and the rest of the room was dead silent looking at me like 'I don't get it, why is that so funny?' After you get out of high school everything changes.. everything. If you go to college, you literally do become invisible just for the fact that there are so many people who attend. The only people on a campus who are really well known are those who run for senate every year, or perhaps someone in the broadcasting department who is always on the local PBS/college station. Don't worry, things get better, just hang in there!

Not at all. Freshman year kind of sucked until about February when swim season started. The older kids were all amazed that I was a pretty good swimmer, so I made lots of friends that way. I was also in drama Freshman and Sophomore years and we had a blast performing plays for elementary school kids in the area. Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years were great! I did well in school -- even took Honors English all four years -- and was MVP on the swim team Junior and Senior years.
I guess it would be hard if you are shy, but there are always some other kids who have the same interests as you. Try making an effort to get to know someone else who seems lonely. It will probably feel awkward at first, but high school can be a lot of fun if you join a club or a team or drama or something. Your social life won't change if you don't do something about it yourself. Good luck and best wishes. :)

Me and you are alike if you ask me, i just graduated h.s. this past june 18. So yeah and i start college at CSUF in like 1week. It was kind of a nightmare for me and i was a little bit anti-social too. I was just trying to avoid trouble, lol. Umm before my brother graduated high school i never really hung out with him which i totally regret. I kind of acted like i didn't have a brother when i actually did at home. Something was just wrong with me, me and my brother are like complete opposites if you don't know us thats what you would think. Also some girls i should of totally took interest in but again i was like always thinking what others would think so nothing happened even though it could of with two girls now i have nothing and i am waiting as those girls eventually moved on. Didn't really get picked on a lot because people respected my older brother who graduated one year before me. And i didn't like to talk to my more popular friends who moved up. Now a couple months later i am seeing changes, i am dressing different like sometimes i wouldn't want to wear certain clothes to school but now i do it, I changed my hair style and got a mo hawk before i would always have the same old boring hair cut, and im shy, that part im still working on i am trying to change my old ways for the better good. Yes your social live will change if you want it too you must work on it though its not just going to happen.

I managed to be invisible in High School. You are right about habits though. It was a very long time before I acquired enough self-esteem and confidence to improve my almost non-existent social life.
I suggest you start now. It takes some time and don't be afraid of being made fun of. They are the jerks and they don't get much respect out here in the real world.

I can certainly empathize with you. I had a lot of difficulty trying to fit in and feel comfortable in high school. I also had trouble in my classes due to a learning problem that I didn't really get support for until I basically begged for it during my senior year. I do regret not being so much more involved in the afterschool activities such as theatre workshop/behind-the-scenes, community service club (didn't have one at the time :), nature preservation club, Yearbook committee or Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) which used to be '...against drunk driving'. It can really be a link to others in your class and having even that interest in common.
What someone else mentioned about not being alone is so true, that one can become a target for bullies when being by themselves as opposed to being in the company of at least one other person. Perhaps even finding out if any of the house principal offices, the nurse's office or library needs an office aide (usually during school hours) and that can allow you to become more involved with school if even on a smaller scale. It really does get better after high school as one doesn't necessarily need to worry about the cliques and politics of high school.

If you go a people-ling your libel to get burnt. Been there not very pleasant I know. You try so hard to fit in and you can't, So you might as well just be yourself. If you find your getting bullied or threatened with bodily harm that is illegal and you should not have to put up with it. The real world is a harsher place. At least in school if someone does not like you it means verbal ridicule which is wrong, but it happens. In the real world if you have a boss that is a bully if you say anything your liable to get fired. So be yourself while you can, because it gets tougher when your older.

No, not really. Middle school was worse than high school. I was a very shy girl in high school - with basically no one to hang out with a lunch. But, my social life has changed. I graduated 3 years ago. While I still do not have friends, I do find it much easier to talk to people than I did when I was younger. The shyness is wearing away a little.
///By the way///
This shy girl here - guess what? I ended up married to someone who was on the football team. Funny how things work out.

I did too and I realized I did the wrong thing to keep from being picked on. Morons pick on the loners because they are lone. So when my son started high school I told him to go out for the football team (even though he'd never even see a game) he met all kinds of kids so the first time some jacka*s tried to pick on him he had a dozen seniors right behind him. He never got picked on again. Now he's a junior and on varsity.
But me I hated it. I wish I could go back knowing I could have made it better just by making friends.

i know how you feel. im 17, and school starts back up for me tomorrow. i hate school. most of the kids are just jerks, and the teachers can be mean too. at least this is my last year of high school though. i think college will be a lot better! :) just ignore the jerks, and be your self. dont worry about making friends, cause you dont want to be friends with most people you meet probably. if you are a nice person, then your great personality will attract some friendly people. be your self, and dont change for anyone, or anything. i hope you have a good school year! :)

I was REALLY shy in high school, but really, I had a good time of it. I had a small group of friends that were just there, not popular or unpopular. We would just talk to whoever talked to us.
After high school, I really had to work hard to become UNshy, it took a while, but eventually it worked out fine. Also, once high school is over, nothing matters that happened there! No one cares about the jocks records and stuff like that. It's like starting out fresh. At least that's how I saw it.
