Assuming you are running Windows on your PC go to start - Run and type in CMD and press enter. When a command prompt window opens (black box with a blinking cursor) type in ipconfig.

The results will show your IP as well as the IP to the router (Default gateway) itself. ie.

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : nycap.rr.com
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.101
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.6

In my case, I would open my browser (either IE or Firefox) and type in 192.168.0.6 and will then be prompted for a username and password. As you have a MR814 your username and password combination would be

User ID admin
Password password

Once you log in, you can set up WEP (Wireless encryption) and lock down your router. I would also suggest changing the default password as anyone can log into your router and change the configuration back to allow access to anyone if they would like.

Additionally, other documentation for this device can be found on the Netgear website. http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/mr814.asp

Hope I helped. Good luck on securing your network!

You don't need any software to configure your Netgear router.
Simply visit (http://192.168.1.1)
Unless you changed the defaults, this should bring up the control panel for your router.

If you need the password for this router, look in your owners manual or find the PDF version of the manual online at www.netgear.com

You don't need software. Download the manual from netgear. Then set wireless encryption using WPA or 128 bit WEP.
