I am happy to say that this website is NOT an accurate slice of the American people, but there is most definitely a dichotomy here-- for the Yin that are Christian, there is a very strong yang that are anti-Christian.

Yes, God this and God that...so much that it does not mean anything anymore.

I live in the Bible Belt so I have an opinion.

I do not want to offend anybody here (it is not your fault you were brainwashed, especially into being easily offended).

If you're an impressionable little kid and your parents drag you to a big church every Sunday (and more) in order for you to get brainwashed into believing all kind of stuff, then your brain will be programmed that way for the rest of your life and you will surely brainwash your own kids as well. People tend to do to their kids what was done to them, in order to justify it (the same goes with physical abuse).

It’s like that behavior South American or African kids have so they think that it’s okay to eat live bugs…like they’re candy? Or those Chinese women of the past thinking it’s best to bind and deform your feet…or in those countries where they mutilate little girls because they believe it’s wrong for woman to experience pleasure…people will believe anything if they’re told often enough.

I have nothing against spirituality. It is just common sense to believe there is a higher power in the universe. But organized religions are a plague on this Earth and the cause of all the wars and atrocities and terrorism.

I feel extremely grateful that my mother was catholic but thought it was wrong to sin and then repent and then everything would be okay since He died for your sins already so you don’t have to. I feel extremely lucky that my father was Muslim and he and my mother decided to let me choose between the two and I chose none.

I believe that a lot of people will hate me for my answer…go for it, hate…you’re good at it.

Firstly, I'm not sure that they are. I am an English lecturer (living in UK) and one of the things I always tell all my students every year is 'Do not make generalisations'. However, I do respect you and your question, but the only answer I can give at present is that there are so many different churches in USA, and when I manage to get to USA and tune into their broadcasts, the variety of views and interpretations is breathtaking. It's the sheer diversity which worries me, and the arguments, and of course the inevitable requests for money to keep any and every religious movement going. I belong to a simple group of Bible Believers, we meet, we talk, we read, we pray, we never ask for money, we don't go on the radio, nobody really knows that much about us. But I meet a lot of very different people, and I would not say at all that UK is a 'religious' country. I think religion is a minority activity here (and no, that is not a generalisation).

This question shows how ignorant some people are when it comes to history. Many people emmigrated to America in the 16th and 17th century because they were persecuted for their beliefs. America welcomed everyone regardless of religion. These people took their beliefs seriously and handed these belifs down through the generations. The British seem to have abandoned religion so think it strange that another nation still holds on to theirs.

Because most Americans practice a religion of some sort.

Isn't that because America does guarantee the freedom of religion? People partly came to America in pursuit of religious freedom that their mother countries allowed a long time ago. They all died but their children learned religious values from their parents and grand parents? It's just my opinion though.

Faith is a very important part of our life. We believe in God and that he does all things for man's benefit.
Since he is such an important part how can we leave that out of our conversation?
He is the reason for our being.
