I bought a 1 gig memory card

I put it in my computer (by itself) and my computer would not get past the "Dell screen"

I think the problem might have be from any one of the either below:

The RAM which you have bought might not be compatible with the motherboard I mean to say the brand. I suggest you to better refer your system manual. This I am saying you because I have experienced the same problem just because of the Brand.

And next check what is the Maximum RAM your system supports.

Hope this will solve ur prob !

Yes, you need to buy two 512 cards. After looking at the service manual from the Dell website, that computer will only support sticks as large as 512MB, which is why you had problems when you tried to put a 1GB stick in. That Kingston RAM you are looking at will work.

are u sure your computer uses PC2700?

that might be the problem, try testing your RAM here:

i think DDR is the problem with your computer, try going for a DDR-333 instead of DDR 184

or go to BIOS and see if your computer recognizes the RAM

If your computer can support 2 GB of ram memory just get another stick of 1 GB the same as that you have at present.
