No, I'm not alright with giving up freedoms, because there are no promises it will result in being safe from terrorism, only in the hope, the increased possibility, of being safER from terrorism. Also, the freedoms that we give up to protect us today are likely to still be gone a hundred years from now. Will it have been worth it?
And yes, I do think it has already happened. Some of the freedoms are little, seemingly petty things, like having to take off our shoes to go through security (because of one truly embarrassing failure of someone to create a shoe-bomb), and some are bigger things, like warrantless wiretapping.

Becky, so what would you be willing to give up? What about the right to own guns? What about the right of free speech? What about the right to protest the government? North Korea hasnt had terrorist attacks in quite some time, should we just follow their style of government?
I am completely against giving up any freedoms for safety. Less then 4,000 americans have died worldwide in terrorist acts in the last 200 years.. we have now 300,000,000+ citizens. (google it, youll find gobs of links backing up that number)
I see people who are willing to give up freedoms for safety as taking their freedoms for granted. When we are in a war fighting for other peoples freedoms, to even consider losing freedoms is absurd!
Now, giving the government more power vs safety is another issue. the government has a job to do, and if this includes looking in on our financial transactions without warrants, searching our phone records (not tapping), or doing investigative work, this may be ok. It really borders on the edge, and if its not abused (such as the fbi has been doing) its technically legal.

It was giving up. The Government took it away from us. Patriot Act and so on.
I believe that the citizens of the USA have given plenty for the "old men," It is so sad that people don't realize what is really going on, and it's their own fault. They bi__H and moan, but does not do anything about it. And when it's to late - who are they going to blame? We need the hippies back to protest and a bigger than life Robin Hood.

We have given up massive freedoms -- in the name of the illusion of security.
If it actually made a difference, yes.
But if it's just risk management -- or worse, just a desire for the govt to control our lives -- no.
We only have those freedoms we choose to defend -- once we surrender a freedom, it's lost to us forever.

Yes I am, and if you think about we already have. ALL laws are taking away "freedoms" to keep people safe. Killing someone would be a freedom but is against the law to keep people safe.

FREEDOM is what seperates us from them. I do not live in Iran, Russia, or China I am a United States citizen. There are ways of keeping us safe without losing who we ARE.

No, I'm not ok with it.
Because giving up "a tiny bit of freedom" leads to giving up "a tiny bit more" and "a tiny bit more", etc.....
Once you set that precedent, it is no longer your decision as to whether you are willing to give....you already established that you are.
Bush said, "They hate us for are freedom". If we give up our liberties for security, we start to become ...them.
