80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

There are as many "answers" to this age-old question as there are philosophies (and philosophers). Religion(s) will tell you one thing, nonbelievers something else. In the end, each person has to discover his or her own meaning to life, whether or not one believes in another plane of existence (call it heaven or the afterlife or whatever). If life has any meaning, it is for the individual to deduce it, and some would argue that it is the search itself that imparts meaning to life. While this may seem unsatisfactory, as Socrates put it, "The unexamined life is not worth living." That said, don't fall into the trap of constantly, incessantly seeking the meaning of it all; give the subject the time and contemplation it deserves, come to some (tentative) conclusion, but don't obsess to the point where life passes you by while you're trying to figure out what it's all about...

God created life so he could spread his word, and have the people spread the word of God. Life gives people the oppurtunity to interact, learn, help other people, and appreciate and live for Jesus. Every life is a miracle, and anyone can make a difference to make life better and easier. Life can be meaningful if you dont waste precious time that you cant take back. Make the best of life because it doesnt last forever and just because everything doesnt always go your way, follow your heart, and you can find something positive about anything or anyone. Dont let life get you down, just get back up. Be the best you can be. Life is a beautiful thing to cherish, and not waste if you choose to make the right choices.

The meaning of life is to enjoy. But now we are on a false platform of life, and therefore we are suffering instead of enjoying. Everywhere we see the struggle for existence. Everyone is struggling, but what is our enjoyment in the end? We are simply suffering and dying. Therefore, although life means enjoyment, at the present moment our life is not enjoyment. But if we come to the real, spiritual platform of life, then we'll enjoy.

I think the meaning of life is to forever try to find the meaning of life. It is our never ending, sole purpose. We will forever continue to question and ask ourselves why we are put here, and in order to achieve that answer, we will expand ourselves and continually reach for the horizon. Our need to have an answer to this basic and yet complex question will never be fulfilled, but it is what drives the human spirit.
