A good question. It is surprisingly often that self-proclaimed "tolerant" and "open minded" liberals are not that at all. I'm tired of all the times I hear arguments from liberals that are more along the lines of "your opinion is just fine, as long as it doesn't differ from mine." That's not investigative or open minded at all.

If a conservative disagrees in an objective, "hey, let's discuss this" manner, then he WILL receive tolerance and open-mindedness from more of us than not. However, when ANYONE disagrees by making blanket statements about an entire group of people ("why do liberals...?" instead of "why do so many/some liberals...?") and use quotation marks to insult them (the minute you put "tolerant" in quotes, it's like you're doing a little dip with air-finger-quotes and rolling your eyes), one provokes a fighting instinct, not a debate.
There are extremists in every group, but most liberals are indeed tolerant and open-minded. We are not, however, Amish. Provoke a fight, and we'll give you one. Mere disagreement, on the other hand, shouldn't include calling people idiots.

Sounds like your feelings are hurt because people didn't like your claim that Bush us the greatest president of all time. I don't think you were sincere in that statement so any response from liberals or conservative Bush detractors can't be taken seriously.
However if you seriously believe that Bush is the greatest president in history you're entitled to your opinion. I would ask you how he is a greater president than Washington, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR or even the conservatives favorite, Reagan.

I comprehend what you're asserting. There are segments on the two factors that are very passionate and close minded. i'm extra liberal than i'm conservative. And yet, i'm professional-lifestyles and intensely, very severe with reference to the deficit. I do exactly no longer trust present day-day republicanism. Which looks loopy to me in only about each way. i'm purely asserting it cuts the two methods... in case you think of "conservatives" are open-minded, refresh your browser and test the main up-tp-date questions. Is Obama the anti-christ? Yeah, it somewhat is genuine looking.

Oh, it is tolerant and open minded. They never said that you CAN'T HAVE that opinion, just that you are ignorant for it.
And what you don't seem to understand is calling a liberal a hypocrite does not make you correct, even if he is a hypocrite.
John Edwards is a rich man, but just because he cares for the welfare of poor and middle class people doesn't make him a hypocrite, and it doesn't make his viewpoint wrong.

Some are some are not. You can't stereotype all liberals based on the actions of one or two that may well be a bunch of fools. Not all liberals are fools and not all conservatives are fools.

Most are -- not all are, obviously.
And even the most open minded person can lose their temper when someone keeps repeating irrational statements no matter how many times they have been show facts to the contrary.

Being tolerant only means we don't judge people until they open their mouths. Then, if they are idiots,we tell them.
