I have a 1992 Buick Park Ave. I started my car just fine and stopped at a stop sign. When I pressed on the gas to go, it died. The lights, radio, etc.... still work, but the car is just dead!
I was told it could be my key. I have an anti-theft type key, and it was worn down, so I went and got a new one. That wasn't it. It still wont start. I now have a new key, new battery and a new starter, but still....nothing. Can anyone help me?!?!

Thats very difficult to say without looking at the car?

Does it have electronic ignition? It could be that the 'brain' is malfunctioning. I'm presuming that you're in America judging by the car you drive. I've just spoke to my friend who lives in Wyoming. She says that like in this country, there are mobile car tuners who come round to your house/apartment, wherever and plug your car into a 'Suntune' which will diagnose the engine fault. some of the modern cars have an actual multicore plug for this specific purpose.

Check your yellow pages or phone directory for your nearest mobile mechanic. because I live in England in the United Kingdom I can't help you much more than that?

u have auto start? if so there is a switch under your pedal that will fix your prob. Anti theft key ends are black on the ends and mostly newer cars come with that, if your has one, call the dealer and ask them to price it out. leaving your keys or passing through a strong magnet will do that. I never knew of one wearing down, but you never know. I would say, that is is not your key, if it turns and lights are on then it is your alternator . try to jump it, if that works then this is ur prob.
well do this first, tap your starter with the end of a screwdriver and make sure it is not that, and then try to start, if your car turns over and starts then that is an easy fix, a few screws and 2 wires. i you can also have your battery test at advance auto parts or auto zone for free and they will tell you if it is bad, if its old and bad then it will not have enough juice to start. Also you can do a simple check yourself, make sure you battery has water in it. just un hook it and pop open them caps and look down inside.

last bet is:
fuel pump switch, if there is something wrong and your car is getting to hot ( thus about to blow) it will shut off your car and nothing will work, it in located in the rear( prob. in your truck)

If you could give a more detailed explanation of what is happening when you turn the key to start your car.
1) Nothing happens?
2) You hear a "click", but nothing else?
3) You hear the starter turning, but the engine doesn't turn?
4) The starter turns the engine, but the engine won't start up?
5) The engine turns over, but very slowly.
6) the engine turns, but there's an awful banging noise?

Assuming you don't have a check engine light on I'd be looking at the fuel pump pressure. They go really fast without warning, get that checked and then you'll know if its that. If it isn't get it scanned and see the fault codes, that will tell you what's going on so you don't spend unnecessary money. Hope this helps...Steve
