My husband is from Norway, I am from the US, and we want to find a name that will be acceptable in both countries without sounding too weird! I have a daughter already whose name is Alaina, so something that isn't too common or too out there.
We have thought Anya for a girl and Erik for a boy.
Any comments on those, and also any suggestions for good middle names that are used in both countries?
Thanks!

***Okay, thank you all for your help! We have decided definitely on Erik Aleksander for a boy. But we are still debating the girl names...he isn't fond of Anya, though I really like Anya Marie (my middle name is Marie). So keep the girl names coming! Oh, and thank you again!!!!

Analise Marie
Julee Lynn
Mariah Lee
Kalee Leanna
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Riley James
Jonathin Stanley
Caleb Steven
Zakari Alan

Hope I could help. You can also try a few different websites to find out some cool Norwegian names and some cool U.S. names . You could even name him after some famous person from Norway or the U.S. and if all else fails.....if it's a boy , name him after your husband, and if it's a girl name her after some special women in either one of your families who is very close to you.

There is a website below that has a few hundred names from Norwegian origin. As an American, you could browse through the names and see what would be considered a 'typical' American name and not too out there.

I personally love Julia or Heidi for a girl's name and Daniel or Jacob for a boys name.

I like both of them! As for middle names, you might want to take a look at names in family trees online. Try RootsWeb.com; search on "erik" and "anya" to see what middle names come up in family trees that are Norse/Norwegian - they might give you some good ideas.

Anya is a nice name and is definitely unique. Erik is pretty common in the US though (Eric/Erick/etc.).
