My friend just called and she's getting her oil changed and they talked her into rotating her tires. Now they say they can't because she doesn't have the tire iron for her car in her trunk? I don't get this. Wouldn't they have their own anyway?

OK, thank you guys so much. It is definitely "wheel locks" and she doesn't have the adapter. She just had the brakes fixed a couple months ago so maybe they have the adapter? They would have to take off the wheels to fix the brakes, right? She's clueless, I'm clueless. By the way, it was a Jiffy Lube.

I wouldn't go back to this place. They don't sound like they are prepared to do the work on the car.

As another person has said, if she has special wheel locks on the studs, then they need to have the adapter which is usually tied to the lug wrench in some manner. Without the special adapter she will have a lot of problems trying to either change a flat tire or rotating the tires. She will have to go to a dealer, and have them match up the adapter or they will have to cut or burn the old ones off and replace them with new ones.

That is what happened to me with my Mustang, when I took it in for the oil change and to have the tires rotated, the last guys forgot to replace my adapter for the wheel locks. I had to go to another dealer that had a master set of locks, and even then the one that I needed, they had misplaced, so I had to have the 4 of them cut off and a new set installed. Since this delaer had done the last oil change, and it was a new car that I had bought there, they didn't charge me for the work.

Well, sure they should have their own "tire irons" (actually, I think you mean "lug wrench"). The only thing I can think of, is they're referring to the jack handle, which sometimes doubles as the lug wrench; but even still, they should be able to remove the wheel covers (if there are any), then remove the tires and rotate them. I'm not sure why they're having a problem? Tell your friend to insist they do the tire rotation, and tell them she has no "tire iron". Let THEM figure it out!

Maybe she has some aftermarket lug nuts and the Lock adapter is missing?

Makes no sense to me. They usually have sockets that fit any brand of car lugnuts. Each major automaker has their own size nuts on the wheels. Also changes with the size of the vehicle (compact vs SUV). I don't think I would let that place work on my car.

If she has theft proof lug nuts they probably cant.Otherwise she should go elsewhere.Whats she going to do if she has a flat.
