So I could use my Xbox 360 on line, but the speed of my connection seems to be affected. I've got 8.6mbps broadband and it seems to be running slower since I replaced my Speedtouch modem with the router, it takes longer to download music and video clips than it use to, even when the Xbox isn't swiched on. Help please!

Netgear got slated in speed tests.

I use Linksys (soon to be Cisco).

But, if you're using wireless to connect your desktop to the router, make sure you're using 802.11g or n, NOT 11b. 11b is limited to 10MB/s, and could be your problem as you can only use (in practice) 2/3s of you max speed.

You should set this both in the router and on the card/usb dongles driver. Assuming it's 11g.

If the router is near other electrical equipment (i.e. TV, Skybox or a computer) then move it away for this will cause interference on the wireless network.
To eliminate all interference, use wires instead of wireless. No interference!

I setup a friends mimo netgear wireless ap/router and it ran like a pig, a VERY FAT AND SLOW PIG AT THAT... both wired and wireless were useless..... until i trusted the setup wizard and actual read the manual, which I would never normally do, as it was for a mate i did it by the book and it works fantastic now, nothings simple anymore......

Most routers operate at *at least* 100Mbps, so there is no bottleneck for 8.6Mbps -- try using a wired connection instead of wireless. You may have a neighbor leeching your connection or just plain interference.
