You might give the website for the
American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena
http://www.aaevp.com/ a look through.
I agree that most EVP recordings are white noise that people look for and hear someting in the pattern.
However, this can be put to test. If many people hear the same word(s) in the tape when they do not know what others have already said they heard this would give multiple confirmations of what it might sound like.
It is also true tapes can at times pick up sounds like insects that the human ear might tune out or not be as sensitive to as magnetic tape (or disc). What would be interesting is a sound that was recored that multiple people identified as the same word(s) independent of one another that was also beyond the capability of a human being to make (this could be done with sound spectrum analysis).
This combined with the same recording conditions at a control location (not reported haunted) that showed nothing and in combination with other unexplained incidents (apparitions, objects moving, etc.) would indicate that EVP did indeed record something at least unexplained.
I believe this area of research should not be given up on but be greatly refined as a investigation technique.

E.V.P stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena. This Phenomena occurs when the voices of a Spirit interrupt an Electro Magnetic Field,"E.M.F's", so inturn using audio tape i.e. from a micro cassette recorder reveals these voices where as before they could not be heard by a human ear. It is the same way with a dog-whistle, the dog in this case being the audio recorder. We as humans cannot pick up the sound of this dog-whistle because the frequency is to high. The dog, on the other hand can, because its ear drum is designed for hearing higher frequencies. The audio recorder uses magnets to record onto tape when an Electro Magnetic field is interrupted such as when paranormal activity occurs. This inturn effects the tape i.e."E.V.P"
Note:
1:) Some E.V.P is extremely hard to hear. We will be posting some of our best voices.
2:) Keep in mind WE as a society are very leery on posting what we think the voices are saying simply because once you read something and expect to hear that same thing you normally do... This theory had been proved between 1970 and 1972 various white noise experiments had been conducted and proved that one can hear anything in just static. This experiment was conducted after the now famous "Raudive" tapes came out.
3:) So we would greatly appreciate any comments on E.V.P and would love to get E mails on what you think the voices are saying.
All E.V.P's are posted in .WAV format if you have trouble hearing them please e mail The G.I.S. and we will send them in a different format.

This has to be the most entertaining thread I have seen yet, you have the fundamentlistic christian whos babbling that the voices are that of evil demons and then you have the want to believers saying that yeah I can talk to my dead cat fluffy through my 20" TV set. Get real seriously if I could meet these people in real life I would probably die myself from laughter, seriously. At some point someone is going to make a movie about talking to the dead through there toothbrush and 20,000 idiots will believe it. EVP is nothing more then electronic noise causes by poorly shielded electronic devices. Hundreds of radio frequancies carry hundreds of voices at any given time and thus chances are good if you crank that volume up really loud your going to hear some kind of name called and chances are if you look back far enough on the history of the house you will find a name that somewaht matchs what you here.

I have never tried it presonally, though I have always wanted to---it's an interesting subject!
Yes, I believe that some people have been successful at catching voices with EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). Some people I think, are just wishful thinkers, and make any noise into a specific voice. Other examples I have heard however, do have a very distinct voice or voices in them.
If you look EVP up online, you can find some few very cool sites, and a couple of them have examples to listen to.

I have heard them on 'Coast to Coast' with Art Bell and Geo. Noory, also on TAPS and a few others.I would not have the "stones" to do it personally although I have thought about it.I really think they are real. But I think demons can sometimes immitate others. There was this one lady she was always getting childrens voices and it really depressed her.I think that was demonic when they found her weakness, that's what they concentrated on.Despair is the demons aim.I also believe dead peoples sprits come through too.

Nope. Not even then.
The human brain is a natural pattern detector, and can detect patterns that resemble recognizable things in total randomness. Thus we see clouds that look like bunnies and blurry photos of rocks that look like faces, and hear faint voices in random noses.
I have often thought I heard my wife calling me while I take a shower, but it's just the noise of the water randomly coming together in a pattern similar enough for my brain to recognize it.
Remember: just because an arrangement of things or sound waves is random doesn't mean the arrangement can't resemble something else. In a random process any particular arrangement is just a likely as any other.

You must have seen the movie: White Noise. I'm really not personally familiar with it but it would be a useful tool if it was ever designed right.

There is so much confusion out there that the people are being totally mis-informed about being able to communicating with the dead.... I am telling you now and for ever that there is no human being on the face of this earth that can communicate with the dead..... And what they are communicating with are demons(fallen angels)... And demons have the power to come in any disguises they choose... Yes angles are that powerful even fallen ones...... And those that attend seances or use the Ouija Board are not in contact with those that have passed on what all of them are dealing with are demons..... I am not going to argue this point nor debate it with any one... All I can say is that your belief will not change the truth... And the truth is that no matter what you hear or see written. Has nothing to do with the dead.. But it has everything to do with demons.. And fallen angels do have the knowledge of the of the ages and they are very capable of giving you some very correct information on just about everything.... So when you talk to the dead beware for you are being fooled................................................

No.
There are no spirits, ghosts, or goblins, only people fooling themselves or others.
