Atlhough Andrea Bocelli sings it beautifully, and it is a very pretty song, "Time to Say Goodbye" is neither classical nor opera. (They are not mutually exclusive, you know!)

Scarborough Fair is a folk tune. One of my favorites. But of course not classical.

As regarding the Sarah Brightman phenomenon, that of "classical crossover" or "pop-opera", those are just marketing phrases. Detracting nothing from the artistry of Brightman, she will remain a popular artist who defies classification.

But she belongs neither in the category of classical nor opera.

Classical

as it's Sarah Brightman.

but Scarborough Fair is actually a traditional Folk song.

Time To Say Goodbye usually is regarded as Classical - I believe it was listed in the Classical Chart.

If you like Scarborough Fair, try these versions:

Simon & Garfunkel
Lesley Garrett {wonderful version}
Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

They are definitely Classical because I have seen videos of them being sung on Classic FM TV.I believe Scarborough Fair is also considered folk music.I don't believe either of them are opera.

one would imagine they'd be classed as "light classics",crossover numbers that get sung by almost everybody.
having said that i have heard some fabulous arrangments of folk/jazz songs by classical artists.
