My srs light is on my '98 civic and shop says air bag won't deply; I get to bring it to the dealer and spend big $?. Or I heard there might be a lifetime warrantly on airbag service. Is that right?

the srs light can come on for many reasons. the most popular reason is a bad switch in the seat belt buckle that doesn't let the air bag control unit know when you have a seat belt on. Honda has a lifetime warranty on the seat belts so if that were the case, it should be repaired at no charge.

there are about 15 other reasons the light can be on. if it is on because of any other reason, you would have to pay for the repair. most dealers charge a fee to 'pull the code' to tell you what the probable cause is. it should cost less than $30 for them to do so. if its a problem with the seatbelt, then you wouldn't pay for diagnosis or repair. if its something else, the dealer could give you an estimate at that time for either additional diagnosis or for part replacement.

because a great many problems with airbags result from collision events, there is no 'lifetime' warranty on air bags. the only applicable warranty at this time is the seat belt lifetime warranty.

hope that answers your question.
