Mom is a smart person. Iguanas are troublesome pets for most people.
The problem is that baby iggies are cute, and young iguanas are not too bad- even though they need a lot more room, heat, and humidity than most people can offer.
The problem is the full-grown iggie that needs a HUGE heated, humidified, and lit space, and that is very capable of hurting the keeper badly.
This is a commonly abused, abandoned, and euthanized species because no one wants to deal with them as they get bigger and more needy and more dangerous.
Oh, and most (but not all) 'tame' iggies are ill or sick. This species drives reptile vets crazy with all the ill or abused ones they see.

Any pet you choose will have its own set of problems,if your Mom is afraid an iguana will bit,so will birds, rats, dogs, cats etc. I think an iguana would be one of the easier pets to care for & thier quiet ,she'll never know you have it if you keep it in your room in its owen little space.Your Mom needs to go to the pet store with you so she can see that it wouldn't hurt her or you. Good luck

Sorry to say, but iguanas are disgusting for some people and you have to understand this.
I saw one in Thailand recently and almost die.
If you like iguanas why don't look for a job in a pet shop or a zoo?.
Good luck!!

First of all, how old are you, how much time do you have, and how much money do you make?
I'm sure you've heard a million times that you need to be able to spend time with your iguana in order to help socialize him or her and that you need enough money to provide for it (food, habitat, vet fees).
I would either prove to your mother that you have enough money and responsibility by getting a job or wait until you move out.

Get a job at a reptile pet store.
Foster one from an animal shelter.

Tell her it doesn't smell, bark, or bite like other pets. Just make sure it has a suitable environment and plenty of food. They don't need much.
