I never put cereal into their bottles. I spoon fed them it as early as 3 months (every Dr's recommendations are different do what you feel is best but at 2 months psychologically they are ready to consume solids) Placed then in their highchair supported put the cereal on a spoon towards the middle of their tongue. None of them gagged none of them had difficulty. Good luck hon

Wow! I added rice cereal to my sons formula for about 3 weeks (started at 4 weeks) I then switched to Emfamil AR (Added Rice). this formula has the added rice to help with spitting up and colic. I was also breastfeeding at the time but used formula 50/50. My son started to have difficulty have BM's so I took him off of it and he's doing fine. Occasionally if were getting ready to go somewhere I add a spoonful of rice cereal to his bottle to reduce spit up. My doctor said it was fine to do. Both doctors (2 different offices- because I switched pediatricians at 2 months) Do what you feel is right for your child. Every doctor is different therefore every mother hears different advice and scary stories about choking risks. The only thing I noticed was that after I stopped the added rice formula was that my son wanted/needed more food to sustain him. He is a normal weight and very healthy.

Talk to your doctor. My doctor recommended waiting until 5 months, but at birth my son was 10 pounds, at two months he was 14 pounds. He was going through an entire large can of powdered formula in less than a week. So at around 3 months, I began feeding him rice cereal. I even told my doctor what I had done and he said he seemed to be handling it fine, and it was okay. Talk to your own doctor about your babys feeding habits and see what he recommends.

It's not recommended to put rice cereal in a baby's formula, unless specifically prescribed by a doctor for reflux.

Cereal in the bottle can lead to overfeeding, and the baby doesn't learn how to eat solid food properly.

At about 4 -6 months your baby should be ready for rice cereal with formula. That should be the first solid that your baby starts eating food like that and then you can slowly introduce new foods and mix them with the rice cereal to add flavor.

Never did. I don't believe in adding cereal to the bottle. But I spoon fed cereal to my baby when he was 5 1/2 months old.

Never did but I nursed.

I just began spoon feeding cereal to all 3 of mine around 5 months but it was very diluted.

I'm not a new mom either, but I think I started giving her rice cereal was 8 weeks or 10 weeks. But the dr. (not a pediatrician) insisted that the rice be fed by spoon. That was fun, teaching a 2 month old to open the mouth, close the mouth, swallow lol. I had to put a tad of sugar in the rice to get her to eat it because it's flavorless. Eventually I put green beans in it, applesauce, etc. She liked that a lot.

When I was a baby, I could not be filled up, and I cried until I was fed. In the hospital, I took 8 oz every 4 hours. The nurses couldn't believe it. I remember Mom telling me that she started adding rice to my bottle at an insanely early age. I turned out fine. So go for it.

Kiss those sweet babies for me!!

I had to at 5 weeks due to reflux. Both of mine had cereal from spoons at 3 months.

Your babys digestive system can't handle food until 4months and feeding them food before then can cause food allergies. It's recommended to start giving them solids 4-6 months but don't put it in a bottle it can be connected to cot death. Feed your baby it from a spoon.

My baby was about 4 to 4 1/2 months old when she started taking 8 oz. bottles every hour or two and still acting hungry, so I started adding cereal to her bottle then, since she wouldn't eat from a spoon yet.
