I used infacol from 3 months but also used this way off soothing the colic and stretching out the tummy muscles (not sure if it will make sense so bear with me); Place baby down on your knee, face down and then lift her with your forearm under her cheek (assuming she turns her face) and your other arm supporting her along her tummy and chest (I used to find it easier if I put arm between her legs for support). Gently rock her from side to side just as you would if you were cradling her on her back. You will feel her tummy tightening as the colic takes hold but should find that after a while it will sooth as her muscles are stretching out and getting rid of the trapped wind. It feels really uncomfortable and a little clumsy at first but you will soon get used to it. My little one used to dribble all down my arm when I did it (lovely eh?) but it worked a dream. My neighbour had a really grisly baby with colic one day and I went round and tried this-she used the method ever since and couldn't believe how well it worked. Good luck, colic only lasts a few months but it can be a nightmare for you and baby.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I thought it was crazy, too until I got desperate and tried it. It's a homeopathic medicine called Hyland's Soother or Hyland's Colic. they are safe, natural soft dissolving pills that you can stick under your baby's tongue and they melt right away-no danger of choking. They alo have no side effects and can be taken with any other medication, but the only setback is that baby cannot eat or nurse 20 minutes before or after taking them. It won't make her tummy icky, it just takes that long to take effect. i never thought natural medicine would work, but my premature daughter cried constantly until i tried these, four doses or four pills the first hour and four pills each hour for two hours after that. It works instantly. You will notice a huge differance in her temperment within minutes, and there is no way to "overdose" on these, and no age too young to take them. Just try it, they only cost about $6 per bottle and can be found in health food sections at most store, even Safeway or Wal-Mart. you will be surprised at the results and most importantly, your baby will be happy. They have chamomille, arnica montana, and other plants in it that relieve stress and gas. Like i said, there is no danger to your baby girl in giving her these pills, and they are worth a try. I'm so glad you're trying to make your new person happy!

CALL THE PEDIATRICIAN! Your baby is quite young. If you are nursing change what you are eating. If the baby is on formula, a different brand might help. Babies with severe colic like to be swaddled (wrapped up). I know that mylicon drops work, but I don't know if you can give them to such a young one. Laying your baby tummy down on your legs can help, make sure their face isn't obstructed. Also try to have a quiet environment... lights on low, quiet, etc. Over stimuation can cause gas too. Hugs n kisses to your lil one

I had a very gassy baby, and if it is indeed gad that is the problem, this will work.
I would lay my baby on my lap, on his back, with his feet near my stomach. I would "bicycle" his legs. Think of riding a bicycle, and how your legs would work,. Then after about every fifth movement of his leg, I would take both of his legs and gently push them back towards his stomach, hold for a second, then continue the bicycling motion again. He not only loved this, but it got rid of all the gas in his tummy. Good luck.

i gave my infant who was (6 weeks premature by the way) Mylicon. My pediatrician said it was safe enough to give it to him up to 11 times a day. He had the same problem when he was just a week or two old, and i gave that to him. It didn't harm him one bit, being that young. Its probably safer than the gripe water too, and less $$! I doubt very seriously that it would hurt her, being that she is just a few days shy of 4 weeks...
Good Luck!

I'd take her to see the pediatrician. What used to be called 'colic' is now being diagnosed as manageable conditions. She may be milk protein intolerant, or have reflux. If you take her in, they can try different things, and even recommend a more digestable formula - it will change your lives once the problem is diagnosed.
Good luck!!!

Is she on bottles? HAve you got the ones with anti colic teats? I used to put my baby over my knee so that her tummy was pressed a bit...then I used to rub her back in an upward motion...to push out the wind...tummy lying is the best position.

I have used mylicon, exercised her legs - push the legs towards tummy and stretch them out many times, slowly; if breastfeeding stay away from beans, onions and other potentially gassy foods, also you can try holding the baby on your arm, head towards your elbow, and your arm will be resting on the baby's torso putting pressure so he'll pass it. Use both hands of course, the other hand will be rubbing his back.
This too shall pass, be patient...

i spent many sleepless nights walking my daughter around in the bathroom when she had colic. i'd turn on the shower as hot as i could get it and let the steam fill the room while we walked back and forth.
a vaporizer worked most of the time, but if she got bad, I'd hold her against my chest and head into the bath. after a while, she'd settle down and everything would be good for a while. i even sat sleeping in a recliner with her against my chest. after coming out of the bath, drape a blanket over her and let her sleep with you.
just don't roll over!

Call Health Visitor for advice. Get the special bottles if not breast feedinng. If you are feeding her yourself, watch what you are eating as it can get in your milk! It will ease over time. Get friend or relative to give you a break too, if you are tense she will feel it, and stress more.
Good luck, dont let this spoil your special time.
