In most zones, they will do just fine being left out in the garden. Only if you live in an area where the soil actually freezes down to the level of the bulbs are you going to need to dig them up for winter. Check with your local nursery to find out about your area if you're uncertain.

Unless you live in zone 7 or higher, you should lift your gladiola corms in the fall. In most places north of zone 7, the ground freezes to a depth that will freeze and kill the corms.

The previous poster who stated that his or hers have survived a northern Michigan winter must have them planted in a very protected space, because even with global warming, winters up there will freeze the corms.

Lift the corms after your first frost, cut off any remaining foliage and then dust them with an anti-fungal powder you can get at any garden center. Then store them in a cool, dry place where the temperatures don't go below freezing. It's best to put them in a box of vermiculite, which will keep them from getting damp & rotting.

It depends on the type of glad and its hardy zone. I live in New England in zone 5 and have to dig them up after frost. If not sure, dig a few and leave a few and next spring you will know!!
