I think I know what DNA is, but what is a DNA hybrid system?

That depends on the context in which the terms are used. Hybridization can mean attempts to measure 'genetic distance' (which can be misleading), or the process of cross-breeding organisms from different taxa. A high percentage of commercial food crops are hybrids. Read the references and see which makes more sense in your context.

Hybridization is the comparing of two strands from different organisms to see how genetically close they are.
