Wars are for different purposes. We had to fight the Germans and Japs because we were attacked and had to keep them from enslaving all of us.
The revolution was fought because England was taxing America to death. The colonists were taxed to the point of starvation.
The Iraqi war is fought because Saddam was training and financing terrorists to murder and destroy America.
The Civil war was fought because the Southern States wanted to break away and form two countries. Had they been successful, America would have been two much smaller and weaker nations. Everything after that would have come out differently.

Well, you see, one can try to be a peaceful people, but the problem is, eventually one of your neighbors is going to have a warmongering leader, and then, if you are not ready, you are history. Look at the peaceful Tibetans versus the Chinese for example.

2) Reducing population
3) Reducing young male poulation, as only females are needed for most reproduction (plus one male)
4) Rapes in wartime help spread genes around to new populations where they otherwise wouldn't go
