I know I've heard it before--once or twice--from old people. Don't know what it means though. Must be an expression [idiom] of some sort.

Think of a door that is hinged in the middle. What is the benefit of it? IT swings both ways, like those old western doors.

It means that you are two faced. A "two-faced" person says nice things about people when they are with them, but bad things about them to other people.

Or you "talk out of both sides of your mouth." It does NOT refer to non-stop talking. It means that you say different things to different people about the same subject. How can you be trusted when "you talk out of both sides of your mouth"?

But the idiom does not merely mean talkative. It is much meaner than that. If you are using it to refer to other people, use it carefully because it is really offensive.

I am guessing that it is an idiom for dishonest, two-faced, "talking out of both sides of the mouth."

It means you are a "two-faced liar." You say one thing to someone and another thing to someone else--depending on who they are. Such as a politician will tell one crowd what they want to hear, and the opposite to a different crowd, just to get votes.

Guess I'm an "old people" person...I know it means one is two-faced; one is saying one thing about an event to some people, and another thing about the same event to other people, for reasons I don't know. A bid at popularity?

It means that you talk a lot, insinuating that your tongue moves so quickly, it must have a hinge in it.
