Its starting to seem hopeless why would they be allowed to give all personal info (for a Price i might add) and any crazy can get any and all info about you. By the way It was NOT from a phone book. My sisters phone # does not include possible family members , divorce and marriage records. This info sets a single female up for perverts.

Police cant do anything until some harm has been done physically. They cant do anything till he hurts her. This happened to a lady and her mom they didnt do anything til the neighbor called and said they were shot and they both died. this is not joke, women who live alone should not have to worry about some stupid company selling the info that they are alone and the family are in another state etc etc etc

The police can absolutely do something about this weirdo stalking her. He might have come across her information legally, but obviously he's using it for some illegal or unauthorized purpose, so they can arrest him.

Every website that contains information like that is specifically for legal professionals and people who have ethical requirements of how to handle that information (like me, I'm a paralegal and I have access to several public records databases). But when people who have those databases access the records, we have to affirm that we are using the information for a bonafide legal purpose and NOT to harass or stalk someone. That means if he's using it to stalk your sister, it's illegal.

If you live in the United States, most addresses of people can be legally found through several mechanisms including the phone book. There is nothing illegal about looking up someone's address.

If the guy is repeatedly going to your sister's house and has been told to leave and not come back, there may (emphasis on may) be a potential charge of trespass or stalking. She needs to make notes of when he comes over and what happens when he does. Then she needs to talk to the police.

The damage is done. Until she moves, the guy will just keep coming back. Get a protection order. To do that she will have to go to her county's district court, fill out a form and go before the judge explaining why she feels threatened by this man.

If she moves, get her new property in a different name. Either legally change her name or set up an S-corp (a small business that specializes real estate development). She will need a lawyer to set up the S-corp. She will pay taxes as the business, file quarterly earnings and she will have to pay herself rent, but that is relatively simple to get done.

Everything that is public record is legal for someone else to obtain.

Your sister should keep note of how many times he comes to her house after she has told him to stay away. Then if it becomes a stalker situation she should get a restraining order against him.

Keep a paper trail!

The site is legal, however if this guy is stalking her, that is illegal & should be reported to the police.
