First of all, Birkenhead is not part of Liverpool, there is over a mile of wet stuff between the two.

Birkenhead has some of the most expensive properties on The Wirral as well as some of the cheapest.

As already stated, Oxton and Prenton are the better parts, being an Oxtonian I'm a little biased. I've also lived in the North End at the other end of the scale, not as nice but that's the reputation rather than the reality.

When it comes down to it, Birkenhead is a small part of it, Wallasey & Bebington that border directly onto Birkenhead, with no let up in population dencity, also have their good points with their bad points.

You can contact me away from Yahoo! Answers for more info if you like, I'm a bus driver that works permanent lates around Birkenhead and may be able to help you more if you give me more direct question.

P.S. The mile is The River Mersey!!!

I thought Birkenhead (the one eyed city) was a different City from Liverpool. So far as I am concerned Birkenhead is Injun Country best avoided. try further out into the Wirral and you get better places to live.
Liverpool is a funny City even in the roughest parts you will find mainly good natured neighbours and bad. If you do not deal with drugs you are probably a lot safer than London and Manchester. In both cities you will find people are naturally helpful to strangers and have a very similar sense of the ridiculous. Both will look down on the other.

Birkenhead is a place of great contrasts.
It is over 20 years now since i lived and solcialised near there but good places were Oxton and parts of Prenton, bad places were woodside and anywhere near Cammel Lairds.
If you have to be sure, goto rightmove.co.uk and check property prices. Weigh up what you would expect to pay for a house. If its less than you thought, avoid. If its more, investigate.
