Penguins are from the south pole. Penguins and polar bears are from opposite ends of the earth. It is more likely to find a polar bear running with lions in Africa that for a penguin and a Polar bear to be together.

People tend to confuse the two poles, and people like to have stereotypes for places. The poles are always seen as cold, inhospitable and far away.

Now, regarding your observation about penguins and polar bears: The polar bear is likely why no flightless birds evolved in the north pole, having such a huge hungry foe is no incentive for loosing the ability to fly.

I am guessing it is the Coke commercials where they have Polar Bears and Penguins together. You know someone out there believes that stuff happens!

most peoples schoolin on AK is from cartoons! Hell even people think what Homer Simpson said in that new movie is true! But there are other cartoons that have this sterotype, like Chilly Willy, and any other ones that showcase the Eskimo's. I lived in ak all my life, and im now stuck in NY for a bit, and when people here where im from I get a ton of stupid questions like, do you guys take american money? Where are your igloos in the summer. bla bla bla. people just dont care to actually look things up anymore.

And the Far Side.
Because Santa keeps them for pets (I know, I know...he's at the North Pole, not Alaska).
