My former landlord is harrassing us with all kinds of law suit claims which are very untrue. We have 3 court dates. One of those we already won, and will win one next week. Anyways, our old house (her rental) is not built very good. She had the washing machine drain hanging out the basement window. The dishwasher and kithen sink drained out a pipe into the yard. There were 2 decks without railings. The basement and attic stairs were very unsturdy. I don't even think the house had any type of board or wood treatment. Can I report any of this to the building code inspector and get her into trouble?

I actually didn't know this until a few weeks after I moved in. All in all the house was okay. I liked living there. It's in the north georgia mountains, so we are very rural.

no draining waste water from your toilet yes but not washing machine.
the railings are only needed if the porch sits I believe its 2 ft or more off the ground and the stairs you can only get her on if you filed a complaint with her while you lived there and can prove it

This is AZ it may be slightly different in your state

It sounds like the main sewer stack is plugged, as well as the drain is not large enough for the addition of the dishwasher to the circuit. Why the water is backing up from the toilet could be further proof of the blockage. Open the trap on the stack, and put a snake down it, If that doesn't fix it, you had better call in a professional.

1. You should not have rented it, or have stayed there once you found all the problems.
2. It is not black water, like flushed toilet water, but some jurisdictions have prohibitions just the same. Check with the local authorities just the same.
In the good old days, women threw out the dish water into their gardens, that is why they grew so well.

that would be my question too. why did you rent it. you must have seen the poor condition and the fact that you rented it anyway was in a sense was implied consent that you took it as is.
