What is their success rate in terms of knocking on doors?
How often do they actually get invited in to discuss the word of the lord with people?
When they ask you if you have found jesus, isn't it more likely in your own home that you were actually looking for the 'other' sock? Or one of those pesky teaspoons?

thats a good question. i never thought of that before, but you're right, they cant have a very good success rate because i cant believe that the chances that they knock on someone's door who is really up and ready for conversion and in addition, to conversion to an offshoot from mainstream christianity, is very high.

I'm an Atheist (for want of a better description) and a member of the BHA. But I always find time to discuss 'worldly affairs' with door knocking Witnesses. Life, peace and harmony is about respecting other people and their viewpoint even if it differs widely from your own. Its not easy knocking on someones door and striking up a conversation and getting across what you believe. I have done it many times in political canvassing. So I have great respect for anyone who attempts it for religious reasons. I always try to help the younger witnesses articulate their conversation and am never derogatory towards them. The same is true of other religions that do door knocking such as Mormons.

Since the goal of Jehovah's Witnesses is to obey and please God and Christ, it would seem that their "success rate" is nearly 100%.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Couldn't tell you Barbie cos it will be a very cold day in hell when one of them gets over my doorstep! Everyone is entitled to their religious views but I don't see why ANYONE has to knock on doors to discuss religion - or to recruit for that matter. If I want to talk about religion I'LL choose where to GO!

BTW:The reason I'm so against Jehovah's is because they will not allow blood transfusions - even to their children - their own flesh and blood.
