To realize that relationships take work. People and relationships change over time so expect to deal with the changes, it is normal. Also expect that you will have challenges, you will have disagreements and that you will both need to work on open communication, honesty and conflict resolution skills. If two people really love each other, they will work hard to make it work. Marrying the one you love is a grand thing, cherish it and work hard to work through the issues.

talk about what you see in your future and get the other person's view of the future...talk about values, children, money, work etc..make sure you are basically on the same page with the same general beliefs...minor differences can be compromised on, but you need to know where both of you stand on the big issues.

DO NOT get married if you are a person who likes to blame what YOU do on other people. Eventually you will blame your spouse for whatever stupid cheating or illegal thing you do.

talk about everything. any issues that you have about anything. my hubby does not like for me to know if we are having money problems and other little issues. the are little issues until he doesn't tell me about them and then they become big issues.
