if your timing belt is broken or shredded cranking the engine over could cause some very expensive damage. some engines are called "interference engines" which means if the cam and crank are out of sync. you will bend your valves and possibly punch holes through your pistons.

It will crank with NO timing belt at all, so that shows nothing. Have it towed and looked at.
