I've been staying up real lae all summer-- like till 4am every night? but now I have to get ready to get back to a normal schdule, up at 7am. Any suggestions? I try to go to bed at midnight, however it doesn't work and I toss and turn. I really don't want to use drugs either. How can I adjust my sleeping pattern asap?

You will have to get up earlier and do something to make yourself tired. Like work.
Go to bed earlier and tell yourself you must sleep.
Better get busy. You do not have long before school starts.

I Now How You Feel But I Have It Worse, I Have Been Staying Up Till 7 And I Have To Get Up At 5. But The Only Thing That Works, But You Don't Want To Do Is Use Drugs. Liquid Cough Medicine Is What I Have Been Using Since Tuesday To Put Me To Sleep And It Works Good, I Just Take It An Hour And A 1/2 Before The Time I Want To Go To Sleep. I'm Telling You It Works, It's The Best Thing Stroking, All That Other Stuff Like Reading A Book, An Eye Mask, White Rice With Milk And Sugar (Ok That's A New One I Never Heard Of That Before) Will Not Work If You Have Been Staying Up Till 4.

I was doing the exact same thing for the entire summer. Some nights I'd wait until 6 AM. You can try a product called Melatonin. It's not a drug and it's NON habit forming. It'll make you feel a little drowsy and make it easier to get to bed earlier. When I went to bed really late, I wouldn't wake up until 1 or even 2 PM sometimes, then at night I wouldn't be that tired. Melatonin helped a lot and I was able to get to bed around 11 PM. If you don't want to take anything, just exercise during the day for a awhile and at night you'll feel more worn out. Play basketball, lift weights, go jogging, whatever it is to keep active. It's healthy and it will help you sleep better. Or you can just do it the hard way and try and force yourself to sleep at night when your not tired. It can be really annoying though if your sleep schedule is really messed up like mine was and I would just lay there in bed for hours without falling asleep because I just wasn't tired. So get active and you should be fine. Hope this helps!!

The best way to do this is to exhaust yourself from the time that you wake up, like starting your day off with a jog, then doing a heavy work out throughout the day. The important part is to exhaust yourself to the point where your body will want sleep.

Another way (albeit I highly DON'T recommend it) is to deprive your body of sleep for the whole day if you can manage it until 10-11PM of the next evening. I know that when I was much younger and in high school, I had the same problem and this was a way I would solve this problem.

Since you don't want to take any drugs such as sleeping pills (which is a good decision), you can purchase a natural herb product called "Valerian Root" (inexpensive). It should help you with sleep.

Good luck.

I have the same exact problem! Try getting an eye mask to cover your eyes with at night, that way you do not have any light disturbances. Do not eat or drink anything an hour before you go to sleep. Try reading for a while. Do not watch television two hours before before bed time. Try to think of something soothing. Try praying before you go to sleep. Meditate. Empty your mind and the sleep will come to you. Find a comfortable position and stay there! Lay there and time your breathing while counting backwards from one hundred. Imagine little sheep jumping over a white picket fence. Hope I helped!

stay up all day don't go to bed at 4am just keep staying awake....wait, how many hours do you normally sleep? take that number and had how long it takes to get ready and take that from 7am and go to bed then, that's the quickest way to adjust it's what travellers do to adjust to world time changes...
For example, i sleep 6 hours, and need 27 minutes to get ready and 10 minutes to work and need to be there by 6AM so i would go to bed around 11, and get up at 5'ish.

Otherwise start going to bed an hour earlier and try to get worn out...try warm milk or some of those foo foo tea's that are suppose to make you sleep....

When this happens to me, very unfortunately I have to force myself throughout the week to go to bed later and later each night until finally I'm going to bed around 9pm instead of 4 am. It's wicked hard the first few days for sure. But if you just force yourself to stay awake 2 hours more than usual each time, you'll eventually get there. It's the only way I can do it. This, however, doesn't work if you have social or personal obligations such as work, children, etc.

It's not a fast process. During the summer, my children have always kept weird hours. Usually 1 to 2 weeks before school starts, I start waking them up about an hour earlier each day until the last week, they are having to get up regular school time. They hate it because they are dead tired but by the end of the week they are starting to adjust. I have 2 out of school now and one to go and they have never had to take drugs to get to sleep.

It's easy I myself have gone through this. Tonight when you go to bed at 4am set your alarm clock to 8am get out of bed and resume your normal daily activities. By 8am you will feel tired and sleepy. Go to bed. If you awake in the middle of the night get up have something light to eat then read a book until you feel sleepy again. Always remember to set your alarm clock to 8am and repeat this until you are able to fall asleep by 10pm till you get up at 7am. Good luck.

Set your alarm clock to wake you up everyday an hour earlier, and don't lie in bed after you wake up, just get up and go straight under a cold shower... you'll find that each day you'll feel tired sooner.. and as soon as you'll feel sleepy, go to bed. The worst thing is to turn your computer on, or watch a movie while it's time to go to sleep, because you'll end up going to sleep late again.. Good Luck!

Hi...
Make some white rice with milk & sugar. The Tryptophan in the rice and milk will make you drowsy enough to fall asleep; and it's not habit forming, it's cheaper than off the shelf drugs, and it tastes good.
I don't know how fattening it is if you care; but then all you have to do is leave out the sugar !

Good Luck & Good Night !
