and are the American people ashamed to have him as their leader?

Probably not. Politicians rarely get what they deserve. He spends a trillion dollars on weapons a year - while American citizens have to beg for food stamps - and many states are handing out food as part of food programs. he has vetoed health insurance for children and attacked the most vulnerable in American society. he send over 100 people to their deaths as Governor of Texas. Countless damage as head of the CIA. Now as President he can get away with anything and the press laugh and call them Bushisms - like it's normal... He is criminally negligent and should be impeached. For every British soldier that gets killed in Iraq because of his imaginary weapons of mass destruction - at least a half dozen American soldiers die needlessly. Mr President - Mr Arsehole more like!

Good news - the sub prime mortgage crisis will bring him and the Republican cartel down.

Worste Presidents Ever: James Buchanan (policies caused the South to break away from the union, thus starting the US Civil War) Jimmy Carter (13% inflation rates, energy crisis, hostages in Iran, 17 million unemployed Americans, American pride at an all time low) Bill Clinton (was too busy trying to hunt down and capture Bill Gates than he was with hunting down and capturing Bin Laden) George Bush may not be the brightest or the smartest, and he may not even give good speeches. But Bush will have the distinction of having the highest approval rating of ANY president in the HISTORY of our nation. Over 93% of Americans supported him on September 20, 2001 when he said "We shall show no distinction between the terrorists, or the countries who harbor them." So were you part of the other 7%? Or are you like the other 70% who simply changed their minds?

Not necessarily the dumbest, although he is certainly one of the most incompetent Presidents ever, in that most of the things he explicitly set out to do, he's failed to do.

This is not about whether or not he conforms to my own personal political beliefs, it's about whether he's managed to carry out the things he said he wanted to do. For the most part, he hasn't. He said he wanted to privatise Social Security, but he failed to do so. He said he wanted to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but he didn't. He, or at any rate his minions, said that the invasion of Iraq would bring about a democratic government there very quickly; it hasn't done so. He said when he was just elected that he didn't believe in getting America involved in foreign wars that had nothing to do with American interests, but instead he's committed American troops to low-intensity operations in Asia for years into the future.

So, some of us do have an idea of what makes a good President; it's a President who manages to do what he says he plans to do. The fact that Bush is not liberal in any way is neither here nor there; he didn't do what his fans elected him to do, therefore he is also incompetent.

Franklin Roosevelt, on the other hand, made plans and then carried them out; he brought America out of the Depression. He was competent. But Bush is nothing like as smart or as capable as Roosevelt. It's a pity, because in the last few years, America really needed an intelligent, decent, imaginative, courageous, tough-minded President. Instead, they got George W. Bush - a stupid, warped, mean-minded, ignorant, bigoted frat boy. This is why we need to be sympathetic towards Americans. They need a great leader right now, and they don't have anything like one on offer.

So far, yes.

While Regan was incredibly 'interesting' from a UK standpoint (when he was confirmed to have dementia, many in the UK could not understand why it took the USA so long to realise that,) he never made as many gaffes when speaking as Bush has.

The proof is there for all to see, just read any website on Bushism's and tell me why there are so many entries.

As for the US public being ashamed of him, some are while others are proud of him (which is very worrying after reading his quotes).

No that honor is held by Jimmy Carter. He was the dumbest and worst president ever. Followed closely by Slick Willie Clinton.

Note: For those who say Ronald Reagan was a dumb president....get a life. Ronald Reagan was the best president this country ever had.

Well I would refrain from using the term dumbest. Lets say his name and Iraq will be bound together till eternity.

No, and no, Only people who do not know the qualities of a good President will see George Bush as dumb, so that makes them even less intelligent.

No, he is not the dumbest at all. Zachary Taylor probably would be the dumbest. That being said Bush will go down as the worst president ever. He is corrupt, incompetent, lies, is arrogant and greedy.

I doubt it.
That honor must go to Jimmy Carter.
A nice guy, but he should NEVER have been President.
I'm ashamed of him and his efforts changed the middle east into the cesspool of problems we face today.
