It is not ok. There is a problem with the ABS part of the braking system. It could just be a wheel sensor that has failed or more, but it relates to the ABS system only.

It will have to be checked by a mechanic that has the ability to plug into the onboard computer system to check for the error.

Basically you have normal brakes that work but no anti-locking. That's it.

The light means the ABS part is disabled. The brakes will still work like regular non ABS brakes. A shop can read the reason for the failure in the ABS module. It's usually a bad wheel speed sensor, but can be a bad controller.
Most people just pull the fuse for the thing and forget about it. As long as you don't panic when you brake, you rarely get that much benifit from ABS.

Jock has given the only answer that has a chance of being right; The ABS warning light shows a fault in the ABS system only - your normal braking isn't affected, and worn pads, low fluid, etc won't cause the ABS warning light to stay on. You could try cleaning the wheel sensors, but if you're not mechanically minded you'd be better off taking it to any garage (you don't need a dealer) and having it plugged in for diagnosis. This will quickly tell the mechanic exactly where the fault lies.

The ABS Module has detected a problem in the ABS system. It might be something simple like a Wheel Speed Sensor, or more complex like the Pump Unit. Your regular brakes are fine. I would bet that it is a wheel speed sensor or excitor ring problem.

ABS pulsates the brakes during hard/emergancy stops to avoid wheel lock and lose of vehicle control.

Cost $200- $1400.

There are a number of resons the ABS light can come on. sad thing is the end result is always the same. You need to take it to a shop and have them pull the codes from the ABS system. it can be something as simple as a sensor all the way up to a bad ABS computer. none of these are cheap repairs. I am sorry.

ABS is the curse on autos these days, it is most likely a wheel speed sensor but on your car it is also a front wheel bearing hub asm. If you have no noise when steering your car at highway speeds then ignore the light, if you have a roar that changes pitch when you turn right or left have the bearings checked.

Your brakes may be adequate, but your anti-lock braking system has a malfunction. As a result, the light is always lit. No, it's not okay, get it fixed so you will have it if you need it.

Your brakes will work, but the anti lock feature is disabled for some reason.
