I know I need to take care of this before washing it in a machine. Any suggestions as to how to treat the stain?

use cold water only then use something like clorox 2 stain stick. Keep dabbing and rinsing until stains gone but be patient you may have to let it set for a few minutes if it is set in for any lenghth of time

First, try running cold water over the stain for several minutes or until the water runs clear after the fabric is rubbed together, then wring it out and soak it with peroxide, which should cause it to fizz. Rinse and repeat the peroxide soak until it no longer fizzes. Peroxide and cause the fabric to change colors but it has never happened to me. You can also try using a product like Oxy Clean in the laundry cycle. The sooner the blood stain is worked on the more likely you are to get it out.
