So the past couple days my 4 weeks old son will NOT take naps during the day unless i wrap him really tight in his blanket and lay down with him and hold him as close as possible, keep in mind i have never slept with him befor this. he does fine at night, but during the day he won't sleep unless i lay down with him. and this just started. don't get me wrong, i LOVE laying with my son and feeling needed like that, but i need to get some stuff done too :)

Your son is only four weeks old he probably likes being wrapped up tight and held close because it is a reminder of the comfort he had in your womb. In no way do you need to start backing up from him yet you can lay and snuggle with him as long as you want , your going to miss being able to when he grows up. If you do have some thing that you need to get done then just wrap him tight and lie him down, he will be fine. Another great thing that they have out now are "baby slings" that way he can still be close to your body but you will still be able to get things done. target has some great ones. :

My baby did the same thing. It turns out that he has an IgG allergy to oats and has food allergy insomnia. He's 10 months now and STILL needs to be swaddled if one of us accidently eats something with oats in it. (I'm breastfeeding.) Delayed food allergy reactions can cause all kinds of problems. My older son was also like that and he ended up with ADHD until we removed milk from his diet.

This might not be the most likely explanation, but if you can't find any other cause for his behavior, ask his doctor to give him a RAST test for food allergies. Good luck, and enjoy your bonding!

When you have stuff to do just let him fall asleep with you and then lay him in a boppy he will feel like he is being held, or you can purchase a baby bjorn so that you can carry him around with you and he will still be close to you. Babies like your heartbeat because it is what they heard in the womb.

He's just more aware than he used to be, babies start fighting sleep, especially naps around4-6 months, and it lasts for quite a while.

At some point you might have to let him cry it out.

Currently, my 6 month old is clinging to my pants leg crying like he lost a leg, all because he refuses to take a nap today.

lol.

Being mom is so much fun.

I know just how you feel. I did lay down with my son in the beginning and then around 6 weeks I started putting him in one of those infant chairs to fall asleep in. (The vibrating kind.) I would let him fall asleep that way and then put him to bed in his crib. worked for me! gl!

the worst thing to do is start laying with him. now that he is older he needs more stimulation to get him tired. so play with him more and when he starts whining or crying and he isnt hungry then wrap him up and put him in his crib or bassinet, leave the room, and if he is tired he will go to sleep =) if you lay with him then he is going to need you to sleep with him all the time and you cant break the habit, might as well do it while he is still little (trust me! it gets harder the longer you wait!)

Have you thought of using a sling or a carrier to put him in - that might put him to sleep.
