Its natural. You're what - 15 / 16 years old? You're a teen and you are always right but are always proved wrong. Of course you're popular and every body except that special friend hates you!
Hey, you've got to go through this :) Live it. Enjoy that heady feeling. Two years and then it'll be gone - But don't forget all the lessons you learn - Because you will learn of Love, lust, jealousy, hatred, the real flow of adrenalin when you win your points ... So much, you will remember every feeling, every tear, every smile, every dirty joke, every prank.
All said and done, I want you to remember one old line:
"When you win the argument / point, see to it that you dont loose your friend."
In High School, you never know who your friend is. And even when you are sixty and you're having sixty friends, you still might treasure that one friend from High School whose number you tore away in a flash of anger. Keep your friends closer in school. You have a life time ahead to get yourself introduced to enemies.

Who decides the "most popular person"?
Let's assume this question has to do with you. I think your answer would lie within the question's implicit assumptions. You would be assuming you're the most popular person in the school, which denotes arrogance. Arrogance is a much hated characteristic. You probably feel vulnerable to hatred because you also kind of feel and think, to some degree at least, that you're better than everyone else.
If you hold the title of some universally adored celebrity at your school, it takes a great deal of humility and kindness toward others... particularly "non-popular" people... in order to prove yourself as a genuine person and thus avoid peer indignation or resentment.
In other words, it comes with the territory. If you become famous, reporters and paparazzi follow you around. You become an elected official, you receive bitter criticism and polemics from the opposing political party. Become rich, you're resented by the poor.

i'm a fifteen 365 days previous woman and discover maximum of that stuff extraordinarily immature, too! especially the gossiping element, all it brings is hardship...it is not even exciting. yet i don't likely agree pertaining to to the relationship element, reason some human beings particularly date because of the fact they prefer all different and characteristic exciting with them, to not be customary or something.

because you get all the attention from people and if your not poplar but nice person that wold like to be popular and people just ignore and its always about that other person getting all the attention you feel left out invisible people judge for your looks not what you feel from inside your heart
people who not poplar and get treated like crap or get picked on for trying to fit its not right we should all love everybody treat people the same people get mad because we are all humans and no one should treated better than someone else that why people get mad

what one can not achieve,one will always criticise,e.g. dhirubhai ambani,what he has achieved proved himself,others have tried to project him cheater just see 'GURU'.never allow your heart to to be hert and hear,such non-sense vulnerable criticism,only try to read your self,and keep your mind open to all critics you hear about you and absorb only which are good for your future achievements,if critics are right,always well come,never wait and make your goal in life weak, by others view,be yourself and who others are to give correction certificate??
