Not yet, certainly.

Logistically, Japan would be extremely difficult for two reasons. One, it is REALLY far away -- it's a 12-hour flight from Dallas to Tokyo (I've done it), and most people need at least one day to reset their bioclock. That's asking a lot to play a three or four game series. Two, Japan has plenty of professional baseball already; what would a MLB team really add?

In parts south, the biggest issue is having a large enough local population and a strong enough economy.

I don't quite understand - are you suggesting that teams be segregated by race or national origin?

Every MLB team has a few Latin American players on it, and many have Japanese players already. I don't see any need for separate teams for them.

For Japan, I think it would be too hard to schedule games cause of the distance.

However, I think it could work with Mexico or Puerto Rico or another Latin country. We do have the Toronot Blue Jays and traveling to Mexico or another nearby country wouldn't be too bad. I think it would be a good idea.

Japan is a bad idea but swapping Tampa for San Juan isn't. From JFK ,San Juan is only an hour further than Miami. I could see teams in San Juan, Havana [after the Castro brothers leave] and Mexico City drawing lots of fans and making money

What? How would that work? Teams are going to travel to Japan for a weekend series? and vice sersa? MLB is perfect the way it is, our scouts go in and take their good players and Americanize them.

Too much international travel involved in that.

Trips to Japan for a series? Or would you have those teams play all road games?

It doesn't work logistically.
