I like writing with ordinary pencils too, but obviously only for personal use. They're so cheap and simple, and biros don't always work if you're half lying down and have them at a funny angle, and they can suddenly go all smudgy on you when you don't feel like getting up and looking for another.
Incidentally, I have some old family postcards dating from the long ago pre-biro era which went through the post written in pencil, so trusting somehow. That was when the only alternative was those dipping pens or fountain pens, and if you'd run out of ink, or didn't want to get messy, pencil was presumably the only other option.
I think there's something comforting about pencils too because they're what we all started out with in our earliest school years.
Although it can look a bit pale sometimes I find an 'H' grade quite good because you don't have to sharpen it as often.

Have to write with a pen in my job, but adore using a pencil, so all notes taken are using a very sharp pencil, I have a fixation for a sharp pencil, I think it stems back to old school days.

I changed to the pen when my pencils ran dull , it became an irritant having to pause during the flow of words. And a sharp mind has been a labor of love ,but the sharpening of the pencil took valuable time.A.M.H.

No, I like a fine point liquid ink ball point pen. I only draw and do crosswords with a pencil and then I like a sharp pencil.

Yes, I am an obsessive pencil sharperner. Mechanical pencils are a good cure for this because they are always sharp...but then you have to worry about obsessive clicking...

Yes, sadly I have to agree that it is great writing with pointy pencils, but not the pop-a-point ones. You have to be a purist on this. Makes writing and figures look so much neater.

I agree sharp pencils are best but what about the propelling pencils where you insert the lead into them!
