maybe some people prefer their privacy...and dont want to be walking through london and have someone shout hey arent you so and so from Y!A...lol. that would be kinda embarrasing.x.

I have a couple of pictures that I've tried but they don't work well in the format, forgive me, I'm still a SLR girl, and as the photographer even my digital work is of others not myself.
I've got some great photographs of family and pets, but my avatar actually sort of looks like me, only a little younger and... younger, but not that much.
I'll keep trying, if I could figure out how to zoom and crop in Yahoo it would be easier.
I have a lot of drive and considerable courage, I just don't think expending either is necessarily required to post my photo. I'm not looking for a date, I'm answering questions.

I could ask, How come some people don't have the drive and creativity to come up with something besides a photo of themselves? (I won't though.
It's not cowardice or embarrassment; it's self-expression. A face is a face, but maybe a person feels something else will express who they feel like inside. Some people have fun playing a persona. C'mon, you never considered doing that? Ever? If you say no, I don't believe you. Thirdly, as someone already pointed out (forgot who), some don't have the ability to.

Because some people don't feel that posting a picture or not posting a picture is in any way a reflection of their personality traits. They also don't need to seek attention from complete strangers to feel validated.
And besides, it's a security and privacy issue as well.

I think it is because I like the anonymity. I sort of like having a profile that is not giving it all away. I have other online profiles with pictures, like Myspace... but for some reason, I just want ONE profile that is free of my pictures, and for me this is it.

They are insecure about their looks. Sometimes they are ugly as a monkeys *** but other times they can be very atractive also but still will not like the way they look.

Meh... I just don't want to... and i'm not a picture person... if you want a pic of me to look good it has to be really close to my face and I have to be looking up... too much work.
