Yesterday in the news a church canceled a memorial service for a gay veteran. Today the Lutheran Church has "come out" accepting gay pastors. There are good things happening for the LGBT community, and every one of them needs to be celebrated!

Goooooooooooooooooo Lutherans! They are an example for the rest of the Christian Community.

What are your thoughts? And if you are able too (with safety always in mind) what kinds of things are you able to do to strengthen the LGBT community over this particular issue?

Again, my goal is to talk about these issues with friends and family and in my daily life so as to heighten overall awareness and bring about steady change.

Hi i think it is great news and i hope that the other churches around the world will look at this as an excellent example of forward thinking and go with it themselves

Its a step in the right direction. Hopefully others will look to it as a positive thing and not try to demoralize it. I belong to a number of gay political organizations and do what I can to make sure that certain issues stay in the news so that people won't get lazy and stop thinking about our need for equal rights and simple tolerance for all differences in this great world.

It is only the ELCA branch of the Lutheran Church that is accepting gay pastors. The other two branches, LCMS and WELS do not.

The ELCA is very liberal compared to the other two, and is falling away from some very basic Lutheran doctrine in many areas.

LCMS and Lutheran Church Canada agree with the Bible that "all have sinned and fallen short of the law", and that homosexuality is an "abomination".

Because of what the Bible commands, our Synods allow a non-practicing homosexual to be ordained, however they must remain celibate. A homosexual is a sinner just like a heterosexual. Everyone is.

The ELCA has decided to defy Scripture and allow "homosexuals who are in a committed monogamous relationship" to be ordained just as the Episcopal (Anglican) Church already has. In Biblical terms, "Committed monogamous homosexual relationship" means "firmly entrenched in un-repentant sin."

If you take issue with my answer, remember that you are taking issue with Scripture which is the Lords word and his will.

It's an answer to prayer. As the pastor of an affirming church, myself, I continue to pray that eventually all churches move in this direction and STOP with the misuse of Scripture.

Thats really nice to hear, but surprising, as Lutherans are one of the strictest religions and many Lutherans I know are the worst homophobs ever. Hope it sticks, dont be surprised if it doesnt.

None of my business, so it's fine by me.However, I wonder if Martin Luther is spining in his grave.
